Planned project cloning
IngeniClone
Clone Inventor projects with control over files, references and reuse.
IngeniClone creates a new copy of a selected Autodesk Inventor assembly and its non-reused components, with the option to include selected drawing files. Review the source hierarchy, choose what should be reused, plan file and folder naming changes, and inspect the proposed clone before creating it.

Planned workflow
Source → Plan → Update → Clone
Collect the source set, make reuse and naming decisions, choose applicable updates, then create and review the copied files.
Collect the set
Select one assembly and optional drawings, then collect their component and reference information.
Copy or reuse
Choose eligible components to copy or reuse and inspect proposed target names and paths.
Choose the changes
Set applicable revision, design-status, quantity and drawing-related updates.
Create and review
Create copied files, update references when matching clone targets exist, and review individual results.
Source
Select the Source
Collect source information before planning the clone.
Assembly
Select one Autodesk Inventor .iam assembly as the top-level source.
Optional drawings
Select multiple Inventor .idw drawings when they should be included. Review or remove drawings from the list before proceeding.
IngeniClone operates within the configured IngeniStudio and Company Standards environment.
Coverage information
Review the Source Scope
IngeniClone collects the selected assembly hierarchy and reads the selected drawings so the intended clone coverage can be understood before planning.
Components without a selected drawing
Identify eligible source components that are not represented by the selected drawing set.
Models outside the source assembly
Identify models referenced by selected drawings that are not part of the selected source assembly.
These findings help clarify scope and do not automatically prevent cloning. They are not a replacement for complete project checking.
Reuse decisions
Copy or Reuse Components
The selected top-level assembly is copied. Decide which other eligible components should receive copies and which should continue using their source files.
Library and Content Center
Library components and Content Center components are reused rather than copied.
Other eligible components
Mark other eligible components for reuse. A part can be selected or deselected for reuse throughout the project.
Reuse includes descendants
Reusing an assembly also reuses its descendants.
Source files remain connected
Reused components continue to reference their source files and do not receive cloned copies.
Reuse is not always read-only. If the user chooses to update quantities on reused files, the original source files are updated and saved.
Quantity handling
Plan the New Quantities
Review quantity changes alongside the component reuse decisions.
IngeniClone reads the source quantity and prefills New Quantity. Enter a new positive whole-number quantity where required; component quantities are calculated using the new quantity and occurrence count.
When reused components exist, IngeniClone asks whether their quantities should also be updated. Choosing Yes updates and saves those reused source files. Choosing No leaves their quantities unchanged.
Plan
Plan the Clone
Provide text to replace and its replacement, then apply that change to file names, folder names, or both.
- Choose what should be copied or reused.
- Enter the text to replace.
- Enter the replacement text.
- Choose file names, folder names, or both.
- Review component and drawing target paths.
- Refresh or rebuild the plan as choices change.
The plan displays proposed target paths and existing-target information before cloning.
The user controls the replacement text; IngeniClone does not invent a new project naming scheme.
Existing targets
Review Existing Targets Before Cloning
Existing target information is part of the plan and requires a deliberate decision.
Inspect existing files, unchanged names and destination conflicts in the plan before running the clone. Review copy and reuse decisions alongside the requested reference and property updates.
Copying and later update stages can have different outcomes. Resolve destination conflicts before proceeding, then inspect the resulting files and references in Inventor.
Update
Update Copied Information and Drawings
Preview source and proposed clone information, then apply the relevant updates to copied components and selected copied drawings.
Revision and Design Status
Optionally apply a new Revision and Design Status to copied components.
Sheet and drawing information
Apply relevant sheet renaming, drawing-number information, and add or replace a trailing sheet-name revision when a revision is supplied.
Existing table fields
Update applicable date, drawn, checked and approved fields in existing revision tables.
Linked Excel Parameter Tables
When a copied component uses an available linked Excel parameter table, copy it into an Excel Files folder beside the cloned top-level assembly.
Updates operate on existing revision tables in copied drawings. A missing or incompatible layout can cause an update failure, which is reported in the clone results.
Connected copies
Keep Copied Files Connected
Maintain the relationships within the planned copied set.
When matching clone targets exist, IngeniClone updates assembly and drawing references so the copied files reference the corresponding copied models.
References to deliberately reused components continue to use their source files.
Clone results
Review the Results
IngeniClone reports individual outcomes so every part of the copied set can be reviewed after the run.
Components and drawings
Review copy results for individual components and drawings.
Sheets and references
Review sheet updates and individual reference replacements.
Information and revision
Review requested information, quantity and revision updates.
Some files or updates can succeed while others fail. Files already created are not automatically removed because a later operation fails. Successfully copied top-level assemblies and drawings can be opened after completion.
Review the resulting assembly and drawing references in Inventor before continuing. Reset Project clears the working selection; it does not undo files already created.
